The Lewis Howard Latimer Progressive Association was founded January 1, 1958 by members of Local Union #3, IBEW from the Construction, Manufacturing, and Maintenance Divisions.  Austin Ottley was the Latimer's first president.  Local Union #3, IBEW Business Representative Douglas Griffith - who served as the Club's President from 1984-1992 - is currently the club's advisor.

 

The Lewis Howard Latimer Progressive Association has grown and thrived over the past 48 years participating in labor union, governmental, educational, civil rights, and other activities.

Austin Ottley - 1st Latimer President (1958-1961)
Joined Local Union No.3, IBEW in 1946, he was elected to the Fixture Division Advisory Board. Under his leadership in 1958 Lewis Howard Latimer Progressive Association Organization of Local Union No.3 formed. In 1960, he led the Organizing Drive for the Fixture Division. He went on to become Labor Management coordinator for the Local Business Development Center. I n addition, he served as a Local Union No.3 delegate to the New York Central Labor Council. His time served as a delegate lead to an appointment by Mayor Wagner to serve on the Mayors Committee on Exploitation.
